Description: Civil War Collins & Co. U.S. Navy Rifle Model 1861 Plymouth/Whitneyville Rifle Sword Yataghan Bayonet with Scabbard and Frog. Excellent condition overall with some light age patina, wear, scratches. Beautiful blade edge, no nicks or dings. Bayonet measures 27" overall with a blade length of 22.5", the inside socket diameter is .937". The ricasso area is stamped, "COLLINS & CO. HARTFORD CONN." The top of handle is stamped, "5576". The Pommel end is stamped with Inspector marks, "F.C.W.". The Scabbard shows cracked leather with brass ends. Some areas show some surface loss, the leather frog is very good showing stiffness. These Bayonets were also known as the "Plymouth Rifle Bayonet" and were made for the Plymouth Navy Rifle and were designed by Admiral J.A. Dahlgren. If you see one in better condition, Buy It!
