You know, as a onetime diver, (well I got out more than that, but you know what I mean) anyhow, as a diver, I just have to say that the guys collecting these beauties are nuts! 125 feet down is 25 feet below what you can do on just a tank of air, (the max bottom time you can get out of one tank of air at 100 feet is 5 minutes, so at 125 feet, a single tank of air would give you about 30 seconds, and that's if you held your breath the whole time you were down there) so they're using a special mix just to dive that deep, and if I'm not mistaken, they have to decompress on their way back up too, unless they like going to the hospital with a bad case of the bends. So, say they've got two tanks on, a good wet suit---because even in Australia the water is going to be cold at that depth---the constitution of an ox and the crazy desire to go collecting at insane depths, and you have a good idea of what folks are going through to find these beauties. Add that one of the best at it, Peter Clarkson, died, and when he died, he took with him the secret of where he was finding the ultra-rare ones---leaving a big gap in the supply chain---and you can see why they are rare... . And this shell, except for a small, old repaired bite on one of the canals, is a very rare, vivid blue beauty, a stunning shell with incredible color, a smooth glossy dorsum, a whitish base and a fantastic pattern, making it a treasure worth owning, and without a doubt, a rare beauty that will look fantastic sitting on your shelf!
