Description: UNSTATED FIRST EDITION BUT APPEARS TO BE THE ONLY PRINTING OF THE BOOK. 395 pages. THE EXTREMELY ELUSIVE DUST JACKET IS NOW IN A BRODART PROTECTIVE SLEEVE. THE JACKET HAS SOILING, SPINE FADING, MULTIPLE CREASES AND SMALL TEARS AS WELL AS A SMALL AMOUNT OF PAPER LOSS AT TOP OF SPINE AND AT FOLD EDGES. THIS IS STILL A NEARLY COMPLETE DUST JACKET AND QUALIFIES AS VERY GOOD. THE BOOK HAS SOME FADING TO THE BOARDS. - EXPOSED PAGE EDGES HAVE DUST/LIGHT SOILING. THE EXPOSED BOARD EDGES SIMILARLY HAVE LIGHT SOILING AND SURFACE WEAR. . - THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE RECEIPT IS IN THE BOOK. OWNER NAME ON FRONT END PAPER. - INTERIOR HAS NO OTHER WRITING, NO HARD CREASES, NO STAMPS, NO TEARS. THE BOOK IS IN A STRONG VERY GOOD CONDITION. - I read this book and thank fate that I was born when I was. Five years earlier and I would have been totally screwed. The first two paragraphs of the Forward (PHOTO 8) tells you how dangerous it is to have this disease with a bad doctor. I was unaware that in the 1950s, if you had Ulcerative Colitis and saw a psychiatrist, he could just throw you into an asylum until you either got better or died because it seems that the shrinks thought it was 100% in your mind. I read a review of this book in British Journal of Surgery and they also were completely sucked into the first paragraph, agreeing wholeheartedly. I have included a photo of this review as the last photo. IT IS NOT A PART OF THE AUCTION AND YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE REVIEW. We still don't know enough about Ulcerative Colitis and, though there have been significant advances since 1958, having all prior knowledge in a single competent volume is worthwhile.
