The medium is egg tempera and colored pencil (his signature medium in later years). He mixed up his own egg tempera emulsion from scratch. The egg tempera shows in the very thin glazes; detailed bright color (as on the birds) was applied with colored pencils Archie Leroy Musick (1902-1978) was an American painter. He studied under Thomas Hart Benton, Stanton MacDonald-Wright, and Boardman Robinson. Archie Musick was born January 19, 1902 in Kirksville, Missouri, to parents Levi Prince Musick and Zada (Goeghegan) Musick. He attended Kirksville schools and later Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now known as Truman State University.
