It was founded c 1864 and operated primarily for it's parent company until being bought by the Allegheny Valley Railroad in 2003. Two notable facts about the MCRR: it was an early proponent of diesel power, buying early engines models from both Alco and General Electric; it also built the famous "Hot Metal Bridge" in Pittsburgh.
