Description: The Mask A Complete Set by Edward Gordon Craig 1919 First Editions (1919.) A complete run of Craig's 'The Mask' published in Florence. Sixteen volumes bound in publishers ¼ vellum over glazed grey boards. Three volumes are folio (13" by 9") and thirteen volumes 8vo (9 ½" by 6 ½".) Craig (1872-1966) was an English modernist theatre practitioner; he worked as an actor, director and scenic designer, as well as developing an influential body of theoretical writings. He was the son of actress Dame Ellen Terry. He directed a great deal of his creative energies into the development of "The Mask", creating what became the first International theatre magazine, and one of the most cutting-edge expressions of modernist thought, art and practice as regards to the theory and artistry of the theatre. The volumes are in good condition with some shelf wear and a bit of a musty smell. There is some foxing to some of the Vol's and toning due to age of some pages and plates. Volumes 8, 10,12, 13, 14 have bookplates on the front free endpapers. Interiors are basically clean and tight. A very handsome set.
