Description: This is the first impression of the first hardback edition of Douglas Adams’ most famous work, published in 1979 by Arthur Barker (ISBN 0213167387). The dustjacket for this edition comes in two different states. This is the one with the solid blue rear panel (the other has an ad for another book on the back). Will be posted in bubblewrap and cardboard to protect it carefully. Jacket will be protected by removable clear cellophane when delivered. CONDITION: The dustjacket is complete and very good with a few minor indentations, faint signs of rubbing and sunning to its spine. The book itself is near fine apart from a minor bump to the lower rear corner of its spine and complete and intact with clean boards and looking unread. This is the genuine first edition and would be a highlight in any science fiction collection. The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was Douglas Adams’ first and most famous book, adapted from his radio series of the same title and later adapted into a TV series and a Hollywood movie. It is now generally recognised as an iconic masterpiece, the source of numerous phrases and expressions that have worked their way into everyday language and culture, for example: “Mostly harmless”; “Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so”; “‘The Answer to the Great Question... Of Life, the Universe and Everything... Is... Forty-two,’ said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm”; “So long, and thanks for all the fish”…
