A beautiful neat, clean and tightly bound copy, with top edge gilt pages and coloured pastedown and endpapers. This does not have a Dust Jacket. Published by Oxford University Press, Humphrey Milford and printed in England at The Oxford University Press by Frederick Hall. Part of ‘The World’s Classics’ series and number 182 of the series. It states inside that “This edition of the English Poems of John Milton was first published in the World’s Classics in 1913”. Humphrey Milford was the publisher to Oxford University Press from 1913 to 1945. This book is a beautiful collection of poetry by the English Poet, John Milton, including his epic poem, Paradise Lost. Milton was born in 1608 in London and died in 1674 and has received huge recognition for his beautiful work. The decorative brown leather-bound boards and spine are intact, but there is some wear, loss of leather at the top and bottom of the spine and a little at the corners. There is also some fading to the leather on the spine. There are ornate embossed decorations on the front board and gilt lettering and further embossed decorations on the spine. Inside, the pages are tanned. There is light foxing on the flyleaf pages, but otherwise the pages are in an overall neat and clean state, with only the occasional small or light mark or light crease. There is just a very small rip to the edge of the catalogue title page, at the back of the book. This is minimal and there are no further rips to the pages. Some of the edges of the pages are uneven and roughly cut, but this is highly likely due to the construction of this book and is all part of its beautiful history. The page leaves were probably uncut and then severed with a pen knife. On the front pastedown, front free endpaper there is pen present and remnants of pencil on the front flyleaf. There is a newspaper clipping pasted to the front free endpaper and a small amount of pen on page 183, correcting a grammatical error in the text. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. The pages are tightly bound. There are no missing pages and all 488 pages plus 8 pages containing a catalogue of the World’s Classics publications are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 15.4 cm by 9.6 cm and 2.1 cm wide.
