Sharp, Bright, Clean, Tight, New Book Rich with Illustrations, Photographs and Battle Maps Fully Referenced and Indexed; Contains a Bibliography of Suggested Reading PUBLISHED BY DaCAPO PRESS IN 2002 It seemed like a good idea to frustrated Union commanders; dig a 500-foot-lont mine underground to reach the formations of the long-besieged Confederates at Peterburg, Virginia, and set off a powerful explosion. On the early morning of June 30, 1864, the mine was packed with 8,000 pounds of black powder and the fuse lit. The powerful explosion that resulted created a 30-foot deep crater and a beak in the Confederate line. Union troops charged the crater – on to be met by a hail of Confederate fire and Rebels unwilling to yield. As the confederates closed in, rifles replaced bayonets in a bloody battle or reprisal while Union commanders bungled ensuing assaults. When it was over, nearly an entire union division was annihilated and the Confederate defenses restored. This book is brand new, unread and in pristine condition. It is sharp, bright, clean and tight. It has no wear. The interior is clean and there isn’t a mark in the book. It has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps, pasteboards or other markings. It is not an ex-library booklet. The book is rich with illustrations, photos and maps. 167 pages. A brand-new book on the Battle of the Crater at Petersburg. Track Page Views WithAuctiva's Counter
