Description: The Adventures of Roderick Random, Volume 1,Tobias Smollett, 1784, This is volume 1 only of a picaresque novel which is partially based on the author's experience as a naval-surgeon's mate in the Royal Navy, especially during the Battle of Cartagena de Indias in 1741. This is in near good condition (better really given its age). The binding is remarkably straight and tight, the calf boards with raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine are shelf worn with loss on both the front and rear. The end papers and pages are slightly toned but have no marks, tears or inscriptions. Will be wrapped carefully in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box.
