TAOS PUEBLO original acrylic on canvas by Taos Pueblo artist Jonathan Warm Day

Description: The unique style used by artist Jonathan Warm Day (1952- ) is to honor his mother, Eva Mirabal, who was famous for her World War 2 cartoon G.I.GERTIE that was featured in the Army Aircorp magazine. She was also an accomplished artist and muralist. Eva Mirabal attended the classes at the Dorothy Dunn Studio art program, which influenced many artist of that time period. A new book entitled "Eva Mirabal" (co-authored by Jonathan Warm Day and Lois Rudnick) has recently been published in which this painting is featured. Jonathan Warm Day is a registered tribal member of the Taos Pueblo. He studied art at the University of New Mexico. He is considered to be one of the unofficial keepers of the history of the Taos Pueblo through his paintings. He paints scenes from the past customs and life ways of the pueblo people from a hundred or so years ago. In this painting he illustrates the women going to the river with clay jars and carry water back to their rooms in the pueblo. There has been no running water in the traditional living spaces within the Taos Pueblo to this day. In the same year that this painting was done (1994) two limited edition serigraphs were printed in Denver by Martin-John Graphics. One, of course, was Taos Pueblo. The other was A NIGHT FOR SONGS AND STORIES, the original of which was chosen as the official image of the Taos Talking Picture Festival for that year. The large serigraph (About 36" x 30") can be found on display in many places in Taos. And there are smaller images like this. Both serigraphs are available elsewhere on eBay (Search under 'Warm Day'). However, this is the original painting. TAOS PUEBLO has been included in shows at the Harwood Museum in Taos and at Niagara University in New York. It is matted and framed. It is in excellent condition. Painting's canvas size is 48" x 36". Upon receipt of payment through eBay TAOS PUEBLO will be shipped to the buyer within 5 days at seller's expense.
