The Thunderbolt is the U.S. Army Air Corps' premier heavyweight fighter. Equipped with a 2,000-horsepower engine, exhaust turbine supercharger, and heavy armament, the Thunderbolt was used for long-range escort missions and ground attacks. The early production version, with a lightly constricted upper fuselage from the canopy to the tail, was called the "Razorback. The beer-barrel styling was created to house the exhaust turbine supercharger. The exhaust ducts from the engine were routed through the lower fuselage to the turbine in the tail section, where the air was compressed to provide the engine with unabated power even at high altitude. Model Details The massive fuselage of the P-47D Thunderbolt is reproduced with a great sense of volume. Two types of propellers are included. A wide variety of armaments, such as 500 pound bombs and rocket launchers. Two types of markings are provided. The cockpit is sculpted with a sense of precision.
