Description: An absolutely gorgeous, small-scale and detailed signet ring from the early Victorian period! In solid 18 carat gold, it's set with a natural bloodstone seal, shaped as a shield and engraved with an heraldic crest depicting an armoured arm holding a scimitar - the crest for a large number of names, including Black; Buck; Clarkson; Doherty; Henry; Kirby; McDougall; Randall and Smith. It's wonderfully finely detailed, with bold design that pops right off the engraving when the light catches it just right. But for me the best part of this piece is its shoulders - beautifully tapering in an elegant, subtle manner, and bearing asymmetric flame or scroll designs in 3d that sets the head off perfectly. It dates to around 1850/60 and is in good wearable condition, with some wear to the metal, and light wear to the stone surface - of little consequence.
