Description: Size: 5/8 inchMaterial: Sterling silver This medal features the profile of St Ignatius holding the Constitution of the Society of Jesus. The Latin inscription reads “Ste Ignati Ora P(ro) Nobis” which means “St Ignatius Pray For Us.” The other side of the medal shows St Peter Claver preaching to slaves. The Spanish inscription reads “San Pedro Claver Rogad P(or) Nosotros” which means “St Peter Claver Pray For Us.” St Ignatius of Loyola was born to Spanish nobility in 1491. He served as a page for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and went on to become a soldier. During a battle his leg was shattered by a cannon ball. During his recovery he only had a book about the lives of the saints and "The Life of Christ". Reading and contemplating them changed Ignatius. He went on to become a great priest and founded The Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He traveled the world spreading the gospel and finally retired in Rome to direct the Jesuits. St Peter Claver was born in into a devout and prosperous family in Spain. After completing his studies at the University of Barcelona, he joined the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) where he was influenced by St Alphonsus Rodriguez to become a missionary in the new colonies of Spain. He ministered, physically and spiritually to the slaves when they arrived in Cartegena.
