Description: As seen on the attached sterling silver tag on this necklace, Orville Tsinnie (1943-2017) signs his work with "Orville Tsinnie, New Mexico" along with two stamps of Shiprock, the town where his studio was.This specific necklace easily goes over one's head to put it on, and looks wonderful with today's fashions. Laid flat as in the photos, it is approximately 17 1/4" inches long per side, or would be 34 1/2 inches long if one could open and lay out as one long strand. The necklace includes 5 webbed tourquoise stones Orville Tsinnie learned to make jewelry from his Hopi brother-in-law in the early 1970s. During his career he won numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement award from the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, an honor award that is only given to the finest American Indian artists.. Tsinnie's work was characterized by superior craftsmanship. He made traditional jewelry but excelled with new designs. All his work was clearly made with precision and attention to detail, which resulted in work that was uniquely his own.
