Description: Custom glassware, likely made by our local chemistry glassblower for an unknown experiment. It seems to be assembled from a standard 50 mL Pyrex round-bottom flask with a 24/40 standard taper outer joint, fused to the bottom cone of a Pyrex conical glass centrifuge tube. The conical part is some kind of Corning Lifetime Red tube with an original volume of about 15 mL, with the bottom 2 mL or so remaining. This portion is marked with white graduations every 0.1 mL on a translucent red background. It is reminiscent of a Goetz centrifuge tube, used in petrochemical analysis to measure a small amount of solids suspended in a liquid. The red stripe graduation is also apparently useful for oil? It does not seem prudent to put this thing in a centrifuge or to put much pressure/vacuum on it. One could envision using this for some kind of fractional distillation or extraction method, so this might have some use in a natural products laboratory. Ships on the next business day (USA only).
