Description: Selmer Super Baritone Saxophone Relac/Resto Project Good Body SN:16443/9438 w/original case on offer. The horn body and neck are in good overall physical shape and the aftermarket lacquer coverage is decent w/a good number bit of surface wear/patina present. The Selmer stamping on the bell is visible but the horn has been buffed aggressively at least once-please see photos. The Selmer Super Bari is keyed to high F and includes a front F--rare for a baritone made in the early 1930's. The original neck is in good overall shape but the neck tenon is not perfectly circular and will need to be worked on or replaced. Also, the circular body to neck receiver brace is placed too high and will need to be moved to allow proper neck octave key and body octave key mechanism function, at the least. A tech who is comfortable/familiar with these horns is highly recommended beyond a "normal" overhaul/repad. The pads, tan leather w/domed nylon reaonators are "well used" and some do not seal at all--again a full horn repad is probably the easiest/best answer. Douglas Pipher, esteemed Selmer Historian/Collector (no relation to sales listing) offered the following information about this particular Selmer Super Sax Baritone Saxophone: "Selmer 16443 is a US-market Super (Type 1) Baritone which shipped from Selmer Paris in July 1932. It was lacquered and set up in Elkhart, Indiana. From roughly 14000 to 17000, the Baritones were stamped as SSS (Selmer Super Sax) but continued the previous design, including the right-wrap neck. Around 17000, they were substantially redesigned, including the introduction of the left-wrap neck. Archive records indicate that 42 Baritones were shipped to the US in 1932." The bari will ship secure/well packed in the original Selmer case in decent functional/physical condition with loose lining/metal handle but it will need to heavily modified for daily use/gigging. Also the original case is very heavy compared to a modern BAM case (for example/not included) and should really only be used for storage. The horn is being sold for parts/restoration as is/shown and returns are not accepted--thanks for looking and please ask any questions BEFORE purchase.
