Seljuq Rum Sultanate, "Three Brothers," A.D. 1270 silver Dirham, NGC MS-61

Description: Silver Dirham, 3 grams (like a drachm or dinar), Seljuq Rum Sultanate, "Three Brothers" ruling, A.H. 648 or A.D. 1270, authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC as MS-61. When you find a Medieval coin still in mint state, it likely was part of a hoard or treasure - adding to its mystery! In what is now the Republic of Turkey, the brothers Kaykaus II, Kilij Arslan IV, and Kayqubad tried to rule as joint Sultans upon the death of their father, Kaykhusraw II, but the sultanate was a vassal to the Mongol Empire to the east, and eyes were upon them, so it didn't work out. They died in their turns and the sultanate split into many more emirates, not to be reunited until one of them, the Ottomans, would do so, conquering to reunite until they established the Ottoman Empire. This artifact of the Middle Ages, turbulent times for Southeastern Europe, Asia Minor, and the Levant, is rare because the Three Brothers did not last long, about 10 years, reducing the opportunity to mint (as reads, this specimen is from the Konya Mint). We are pleased to have acquired one to offer it to you now.
