Description: Item Description A MUST-OWN FOR ANY INDIANA JONES FAN! Charlton Heston is Harry Steele, an American adventurer living in Cuzco, Peru who for years has been seeking a fabulous Inca sunburst that has been lost for centuries. After years of gathering clues, Steele finally has a line on the location of the treasure - the mysterious lost city of Machu Picchu! But lurking in the shadows is Ed Morgan (Thomas Mitchell), a slovenly dreamer and schemer who is also after the Inca gold and will stop at nothing to get it! Romanian refugee Nicole Maurey enters the fray as she flees from authorities and gets mixed up in the proceedings, hoping she can escape to the United States. All this madness spells big trouble for goody-goody archaeologist Robert Young who is trying to conduct a legitimate dig at the site. All parties converge on Machu Picchu as they scheme and plot against each other to make off with the fabulous jewel-encrusted sunburst! Heston steals the show along with everything else he can lay his hands on in the movie. One of the highlights is Peruvian singer Yma Sumac, who will burst your ear drums in a pantomime side-show performance of high energy and even higher kitsch! They don't make 'em like this anymore, and if you want to unearth the origins of Indiana Jones, don't miss "SECRET OF THE INCAS". BONUS: Browse the contents of the DVD on your computer to the Lux Radio Theater folder and you will find an MP3 of the Lux Radio Theater presentation of Secret of the Incas with Charlton Heston and Nicole Maurey reprising their roles! One of my personal all-time favorites, "Secret of the Incas" is a fine example of a 1950's adventure film, with some quite astounding location footage of Machu Picchu and Cuzco. There are several films often cited by movie buffs as direct inspirations for the Indiana Jones franchise, but this one is the most common with even the production staff referring to it by name. There has been a longstanding rumor that Lucas & Speilberg used their clout at Paramount to have this and several other films kept out of the marketplace so as to hide the stunning similarities. With many of the scenes in Secret of the Incas bearing a striking resemblance in tone and structure to scenes in Raiders of the Lost Ark, it is not hard to see the influence. Raiders' costume designer Deborah Nadoolman noted that the inspiration for Indiana's costume was Charlton Heston's Harry Steele in Secret of the Incas: "We did watch Secret of the Incas together as a crew several times, and I always thought it strange that the filmmakers did not credit it later as the inspiration for the series" and quipped that the film is "almost a shot for shot Raiders of the Lost Ark."
