Description: Up for sale is a MINT Scotty Cameron Pre-Titleist Classic I with S.C.M. crown and Tour Master 1995/100 engraved on the toe and sole. The putter head, Scotty Cameron on the heel and Classic I on the sole, shaft and grip are all original from the early 1990s. This is an original pre-titleist Classic I putter. Length is 35in. The SCM crown and Tour Master 1995/100 engravings are believed to be aftermarket done by Sheffield Golf Labs back in the early 90s. This is the first of its kind ever seen for a Classic 1 though. There was a Classic V that had surfaced with the same engravings, also, believed to be aftermarket engravings by Sheffield Golf Labs. Scotty joined Titleist in late 1994, these heads were made before 1995, thus why the 1995/100 is believed to be aftermarket. For those that don't know, Sheffield Golf Labs had a legit connection to Scotty Cameron as a distributor for his Cameron Golf International putters in Japan before he joined Titleist. Once he joined Titleist, the distribution connection was no longer needed. It is believed, that SGL still had some of these classic 1 heads and put the engravings on after Scotty joined Titleist. Regardless, this is still a rare and unique putter for any collector or someone looking to game and tell a story of the history with the putter and Scotty as he moved up the ranks to become the highest sought out putter maker in the world. I have attached some pictures of pages in the book "The Art of Putters" by Bill Vogeney and David Levine. These will show the history of Scotty and the classic 1. Regardless, in any discussion, it is becoming very hard to find a pre-titleist scotty cameron classic 1 in this mint condition with original graphite brunswick shaft and danny edwards grip.....especially from someone in the USA where you don't have to worry about buying from a foreign putter flipper on ebay who may not have the putter pictured in their possession before you purchase. As any Scotty Cameron collector would know, this was the model used to capture Scotty's first major win, the Masters, back in 1993 by Bernhard Langer, and what put Scotty Cameron on the map. It is essentially what Titleist had as the newport putter line when joining forces with Scotty. This is another great putter in my collection I am sad to sell...but it is time to thin my collection out and let someone else enjoy these putters and their history. Update- there was an auction regarding a Masters Choice putter from the classic family with aftermarket engraving on the toe "Piece of time". Bill Vogeney writes about this, which would further enhance the attributes of this putter. Please read below.... From Vog: This appears to be an absolutely all original example that has not been refinished, reshafted or regripped. Because of the stainless steel construction and "finish" (polished on the face and sole and metal finish on the top) these are very condition-sensitive and very difficult to find in this condition. The original milling is very distinctive and has not been duplicated through Scotty's restoration service.Because of the Piece of Time logo engraved on the toe, based on past putters sent into the Cameron authentication service, this would get a "C" COA. Yet years ago at one of the early Cameron collector events, Scotty once described a putter as a "C with a story," meaning a putter that had a cool story to go with the "C" COA. This is one of those cool stories. Piece of Time was an early Cameron distributor, prior to Titleist. Their logo has appeared on other putters, bags, covers, and even visors, along side the Cameron logo. While Scotty has said that Piece of Time had their logo engraved on these putters, in the Cameron World book/magazine insert from Japan, there appears a series of vintage pictures of Scotty at a Japanese tour event. One of the pictures is of many of the putters Scotty distributed to players there, and the Piece of Time logo is on most if not all of the putters there. So did Piece of Time do the logo with Scotty's knowledge or consent? We'll never know but we do know that there was a very good relationship with their owner, Milton Takai. If you asked me if I would rather have this Master's Choice in near mint condition with the POT logo on it and a C COA, or a refinished one or well-used one with an A COA for my collection, I would choose this putter without a doubt. So many of these have been used or refinished, finding one in this condition is very challenging. Putter is being listed as used, BUT in MINT condition....see pictures. It is being sold as-is/no returns (protected by ebay though), only ship to lower 48 states and only accept paypal for payment within 12 hours of purchase.
