Description: SAMUEL T. DANA This is an old advertisement which bears the signature of Samuel Trask Dana (1883-1978), who was Presidentof the Society of American Foresters, as well as being Dean of the School of Forestry and Conservation at the University of Michigan from 1927 to 1951. The Dana Building was named in his honor. This is an ad for the Weyerhauser Timber Company. I believe the ad dates to 1956. It is about 12" by 11". The ad features Samuel T. Dana. The largest element of the ad is a painting of an outdoor scene which shows Dana standing on a railroad trestle. The painting is by Stan Galli (1912-2009), who was elected to the Hall of Fame of the Society of Illustrators in 1981. The ad has a horizontal crease where it has been folded; the crease runs across the sentence "good forestry practices perpetuate wood, water, and wildlife..." There are some remnants of paper on the back, from when it was glued into a scrapbook. Otherwise, it is in good condition, with some smaller creases and general wear. This signed ad came from the collection of Roger Harris, a well known collector of autographs. I am currently selling many signed items that were originally part of the Roger Harris collection. This autographed advertisement might make a nice framed gift. Shipping is FREE via USPS First Mail. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
