Last known retail $14,000.Published in 1973, the cook book "Les Diners de Gala" was a dream come true for surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, who claimed at six years old that he wanted to be a chef. The quirky cookbook contains 136 recipes across 12 chapters, including one dedicated to aphrodisiacs, paired with Dalí's unique and strange illustrations. The artwork features unsettling images of crayfish, a swan with a toothbrush in a pastry case, and Dalí himself mingling with chefs. Recipes include unusual dishes like “Thousand Year Old Eggs,” “Veal Cutlets Stuffed With Snails,” and “Toffee with Pine Cones.” Dalí was famous for his extravagant dinner parties, where guests wore outrageous costumes and wild animals wandered around the table. Despite the oddities, many recipes came from top Paris restaurants like Lasserre, Maxim’s, and Le Train Bleu.
