Description: This is one of 25 copies of dry point engravings by Salvador Dali entitled: A RUSE AND A SHADOW BENEATH A PINE (Alternate title: UNDER THE PARASOL PINE) that my parents purchased from the Cory Gallery in San Francisco in 1973. The twenty-one original drypoint engravings by Salvador Dali, executed at the Rigal studio in Cadaques, Spain, illustrate the legend of Tristan and Iseult adapted by Lawrence Lacina. This original English edition, handset in De Roos 20 type, is limited to 128 copies on Velin de Mandeure paper and is presented in the manner described below. The artist has signed the front piece and initialed the twenty other engraving. Twenty-five copies numbered 1/125 to 25/125 containing an additional suite of the 21 drypoint engravings, each signed by the artist and numbered from I/XXV to XXV/XXV. One hundred copies numbered 26/125 to 125/125. Three copies marked HC (Hors Commerce) A, B, C, containing an additional suite of the twenty-one dry point engravings, each signed by the artist. In addition, seventy-five suites were pulled exclusively on Japon nacré paper with wide margins, numbered from I/LXXV to LXXV/LXXV, each sign by the artist.
