ROSENTHAL R9 (?) HELENA 10 1/2-inch CAKE PLATE GRAY FLOWERS IN BAND

Description: This lovely cake plate was manufactured by Rosenthal in Selb, Germany. The pattern features an ornate floral band on the rim as well as what appears to be a gold band and gold trim. [The floral band includes gray or black flowers wrapped within a band (see close-up photograph). The Replacements, Ltd. web site lists a pattern ("R9") that features this same floral band, but the description states that the shape is "Balmoral" -- so I don't know if the cake plate I am listing actually is the same pattern.] The background is ivory or creamy white, and this "Helena" shape is coupe. ("Helena" is not the pattern name. Rosenthal appears to have manufactured a number of different patterns and shapes that are labeled "Helena." The bottom bears the manufacturer's mark with the words "Rosenthal Selb Germany" as well as the designation "Helena" (see photographs). This cake plate is approximately 10 1/2 inches in diameter. This Rosenthal cake plate is in very good to excellent condition with no evidence of any damage (see photographs) other than some faint staining on the back. The surface of the plate itself appears unmarred, and no utensil marks are visible to the unaided eye. (Please note that I photographed this item outdoors using a combination of natural light and flash. Any white spots or glare are a result of the use of the flash.)
