Fair. Pamphlet. Two sermons on the text Isaiah 26:21-21, in which Romeyn treats with the political developments in Europe as prophetical signs and fulfillments. He views Napoleon (particularly his appointments of Popish Cardinals over territories he conquers), the Pope, and the Roman Church through the lens of his interpretations of the Bible. He predicts that the fall of the Man of Sin will happen about the year 2000. His conclusion at the end of the second sermon is to call American Christians to repent and mourn over their sins, their ungodly rulers, the prevalence of infidel principles, neglect of religious ordinances, the grasping for wealth, and their political dissensions. In 1804 he became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Albany, and in 1808 of the Cedar Street Church of New York City. The College of New Jersey bestowed upon him the degree of Doctor of Divinity in his 32nd year of age. He labored in the ministry with great success at Cedar Street until his death. He was a trustee of Princeton College from 1809 forward, and in 1810 was the Moderator of the General Assembly. “The greater part of his printed works are comprised in two volumes of Sermons, published in 1816, and shortly after republished in Scotland.” – Sprague.
