Description: Rome, ITALY - Grand Hotel de L'Europe - ARCHITECTURE: Constructed in the mid 1800s, the Grand Hotel was initially the residential home of a noble Italian family from Piedmont. It was converted in the 1860s to a luxury hotel, having a location in the heart of Rome. In 1866 Pope Pius IX stayed here to bestow honor to the Mexican Empress Carlotta, who would not stay in the Vatican finding the accommodations offered there too modest. Among the more important historical events were the preliminary meetings among European member states for the European Treaty Conference on a Single European Market in 1957.. This White Border Era (1915-30) postcard is in good condition.
