Rolling Stone Magazine Collection 1968 - 1977 complete 229 Issues #12 - #240

Description: Rolling Stone Magazine Collection Issues #12 through #240 complete. Ten full years. From June 1968 to June 1977. No missing issues!!!229 issues. Most are Very Good, many are Excellent, a few are VG- or Good. See the list below. I will ship the collection for free within the US. (6 boxes will cost more than $400. Come pick them up and I'll take $400 off.) I call this the Jean Rose Collection. The vast majority of these magazines are in Very Good condition. Many of them are in Excellent condition, and only a few would be rated Good. None of these magazines are in Poor condition. They all show various signs of aging. Many have edges that are dense with brown aging spots. Not bad considering I found them in two piles on a basement floor in Haight Ashbury.Jean Rose still lived at 219 Carl St in San Francisco when she answered my ad in the late 90’s. Jean Colon was featured in Rolling Stone issue #11 for the hip clothing she designed and made for members of Jefferson Airplane. As she related it to me, she became friends with Baron Wolman, Rolling Stone's Photographer, and he “hooked her up” with a subscription to Rolling Stone. She changed her name to Jean Rose and opened a clothing store called Cactus Patch Soup, names you’ll see on the later labels. She kept #11 and sold me the rest. This collection of magazines was stored, unbagged, at Jean’s home for over 20 years. Some were unsalvageable. Fortunately, the older ones were on the top of one of the piles, so they are in very good shape. Later ones were on the bottom, so those were in the worst shape. In time I replaced the badly damaged issues, and by 1999 each magazine was in an archival plastic bag. The collection has been stored in a cool, dry place ever since. Disclaimer: I'm not a professional collector, I just got into collecting while I lived in San Francisco during the 90's. I really got into it at the time and feel like I learned a lot. I'm basing my ratings on personal experience. As a whole I’d rate the entire collection as Very Good. Most issue are VG and VG+. Quite a few are Excellent, and many of those lack a mailing label, including some key issues. I wish I could show more images to show off more of the choice items. The photos above are of this collection, and are high res so you can zoom in. I've also shown the worst of the damaged issues individually, so you shouldn't be surprised. I’ve also described all 29 of the issues that I rated less than VG. (If you want to see more images, let me know.)I do rate 9 issues as Good, mostly because of tears on the back cover, missing corners, separation at the staples, and/or writing on the front cover, but nothing key is missing. See photos. The paper on some issues is more brittle than on others, so careful handling will be required. Every issue is complete and readable. The first 6 of my images are groupings that show the entire collection in their bags. (Somehow I skipped #177, 178 & 179, but they are present.) I Included an image of #177 and #178 which illustrates the variation in conditions. #177 is one of 9 that I rated Good or Good+. (See list below) I rated #178 VG+. 3 images show the worst of the issues that I’ve rated Good. They are #149, 153 and 231. (see the descriptions below.) (Also see notes on #63, but since that tear was almost certainly done by Jean Rose to order the album, I think it’s historically cool) Nothing will be worse than what you see in those images. Other images show early issues in VG+/Fine- condition. Trust me, the majority are like these. The following is just a sampling of early issues that I’ve rated Fine with NO mailing label; #17 Rick Griffin cover, #26 Hendrix cover, #37 Elvis Cover, #69 Jimi Hendrix memorial. #66 Grateful Dead. #34 & #35 are Fine- due to a little tanning around the edges. Only a few of the earlier issues are less than VG+.The earliest issues are in surprisingly good shape. #13 is VG+. #14 is VG due to a light spattering of tan aging spots. #15 is VG due to a small number of tan aging spots and a ½” break in the spine. #16 and #17 are VG+. #18 is Fine- with a mailing label. #19 through #30 are all VG+ and Fine-.Notes: Issue #22 has the Bob Dylan poster but does not have the John and Yoko nude foldout.Issue #30 has the insert “American Revolution” A Rolling Stone Special Issue. #12 Bob Dylan – Is just barely VG due to aging of paper. The cover is covered in faint tan spots. (Top of the pile.) The right edges of several pages are frayed. ***Below is a list of all 29 issues that I’ve rated VG- or Good for various reasons (29 out of 229). 20 are rated VG- and 9 are rated Good. Only 5 issues out of these 29 are in the first 100 issues.#39 Brian Jones – VG- due to a 1” circular area of faint yellow translucent stain that encroaches on the image. Otherwise VG+.#45 Tina Turner – Good+ due to bold writing on the cover that encroaches on image.
