The band is a length of black grosgrain ribbon. If the bracelet did not have a gold slide, but was plain or had a vulcanite, gutta percha or jet slide, it would have been worn for the complete mourning period. With bright gold fittings, it would have been kept for later wear, after the full mourning period was over. Center front is a yellow gold slide engraved with a Gothic letter M. The slide is marked 9ct for 9 karat gold. The buckle is rose gold. It is marked Rolled Gold and is not solid gold, as is the slide. This is an adjustable bracelet and presently measures 7" around for your wrist. Few of these ribbon pieces have withstood the test of time. Its rarity makes it desirable and highly collectible.
