Description: I believe that that rear drawing is from January, 1997 ( Royal died of a heart attack on July 5th, 1997) and the front is some time earlier ( he mentions 1977?)is on poster board and measures 22" x 28" It is a double sided drawing. The 'front' (images 1-5) shows a tiny town and a giant cartoon bubble which is Royal's voice. The verso side is shown in images 6-9 and shows a number of Royal's obsessive thoughts especially dealing with his ex wife Adell Brent. The drawing media is permanent SHARPIE pen and colored magic marker. Very stable. I have collected drawings from Royal since the mid 1980s and all, including drawings from the 70s, are very stable and the color is vivid to good. His works are in numerous private and public collections including the SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART, the Mississippi Museum of Art, The American visionary Art Museum and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, among others. Prophet Royal Robertson (1931-1997) was a sugar cane mill worker and later became a sign painter. He and his wife Adell raised 11 children but when Adell left Royal and took the kids with her, he became unstable and had apocalyptic vision/dreams. He began to draw and eventually covered every inch of his Baldwin, Louisiana home and yard paintings and drawings.
