Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Modern Natural History Print Original Seba engravings, when offered, sell in the range of $2,000 and up.NOTE: The original print had a center fold (as published)...that fold appears in the print Red Ibis, Eudocimus ruberThis modern, single (blank on reverse) art print has a stunningly colorful illustration by Albertus Seba (1665-1736), was a Dutch pharmacist, zoologist and collector. Seba accumulated one of the largest cabinets of curiosities in the Netherlands during his time. He sold one of his cabinets in 1717 to Peter the Great of Russia. His later collections were auctioned after his death. In 1734, Seba published his Thesaurus, titled Locupletissimi rerum naturalium thesauri accurata descriptio, translated as "Accurate description of the very rich thesaurus of the principal and rarest natural objects", and consisted of four volumes, of which two were published after Seba's death. The colored engravings focused on animals of all types to include the life of the sea, including various shells, fish, and plants. This would be perfect for adding to a home decor. It is in very nice condition with nice detail. Please note that while this print is near excellent, it presents the age faults in the original print...which for this print includes the page fold, as many of his prints were two pages. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
