FIRST OFF the new $15,000 Sub-Zero models are now "Intelligent and have Wi Fi". This is not a good idea since the more complicated stuff you add to a refrigerator design, the more chance it will break. AND after all, you really just need a refrigerator to have very simple engineering and for it to get cold without repairs. Like most stuff built now, Sub-Zero has deviated from their previous path of just building a reliable unit. So the previous models are simpler, better, not to mention they use the standard R134a Freon gas which has been around for 25yrs now. The new Sub-Zero models use a less tested newer refrigerant gas which must meet Govt regulations. What does that tell you ? We noted a lot of EBay sellers list their Sub-Zero units as refurbished but none of these listings say the fresh food evaporator has been replaced with a new factory OEM evaporator. This is a $2,500 to $3,500 repair and unless this has been done, then the unit is not refurbished and the part will fail losing all its Freon gas. Unless the EBay seller's listing states that the fresh food evaporator/drier on the 700, 600, 500, or 400 series Sub-Zero models has been replaced with the updated OEM factory evaporator($2,500+update repair), then assume it has not been replaced otherwise they would not be selling it. Even if they describe the unit as refurbished or serviced by a Sub-Zero tech, assume the update service has not been done. This is a $2,500 service and must be done to these models. We have 4 Ebay sites and have been selling these units on Ebay for over 22yrs and we will not sell any of these models unless we update this service with a factory OEM part. Again, all of these models we sell have been updated with this new SZ evaporator by our techs. One other thing when buying these on EBay. Unless the stainless doors are described as new or flawless, assume they will have some amount of damage, dings, scratches, or scuffs that may not be disclosed. We only sell perfect stainless doors, unless stated otherwise. This is a completely refurbished unit in which the fresh food evaporator($2,500 service), gaskets, stainless, top grill, & updated LED lighting. If you desire a brand new factory SZ compressor installed on the freezer side, which is normally the compressor that can fail, please add just $199 and we will replace the existing compressor. All replacement parts used for our refurbished SZ unit are 100% factory OEM parts we purchase from Sub-Zero. No aftermarket Chinese parts used. This unit has no exterior flaws on any of the stainless steel grill or doors. No dents, dings, or scratches on any of the stainless. Cabinet trim pieces may have a tiny nick or two. The interior is appears complete and in very good condition. A couple of the bins may have some scuff marks on some of the glass shelves and clear plastic, but overall very good condition, but not 100% perfect. Unit comes only as shown in the below photos regardless of the factory description pasted above. Let us explain how this works: If you buy a Sub-Zero unit the fresh food evaporator will corrode and fail. The Freon gas will leak out and the fresh food section will slowly get warmer until it no longer gets cold. This never happens to the freezer side. This occurs on the 400, 500, 600, 700 series models. Not sure about the BI series yet because they have not been out long enough. Then, the Sub-Zero refrigerator guy will make a $150 service call to your house and he will estimate the repair at around $2,500. You can add another $800, or more if he lies about the compressor being bad also, which they often do. Compressors do go out, but not that often and not at the same time. So you can assume that the majority of the Sub-Zero units being sold on Ebay have not had the fresh food evaporator replaced AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE BEING SOLD. You can add another $2,500 to the price you pay because the part will fail. Additionally, seldom are the stainless steel doors described accurately since most will have some type of damage. The stainless doors are about $1,100 each, plus installation which can be a nightmare to align.
