Description: Up for sale here is this rebuild kit for the Eico 221 or 214 VTVM. At this point these are at least 40-70 years old, and the old parts are weak and failing, with leaky capacitors and crumbling cords. We will make them new again! This kit includes a new replacement AC power cord and replacement film and electrolytic capacitors. It also includes an instruction sheet to explain how to install everything. This does not include any tubes or resistors. New caps are two Supertech electrolytic capacitors, 2 Supertech 630v yellow film capacitors, one Supertech 2000v yellow film capacitor, plus one Vishay safety disc cap--you will get the exact parts shown in the picture. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts--these are the same parts I use when I rebuild test gear. The parts included are modern equivalents of the original parts, with the same uf values except for two things. The Eico 221 and 214 used a .002 uf cap that was wired from AC to ground, and that is replaced with a Vishay .01 uf X1Y2 safety disc cap, which is much better (and safer) than the original. Also, the 221 and 214 used a few different possible values for the electrolytic capacitor--I have seen 4 uf, 8 uf, and 10 uf. The kit includes one 4.7 uf 450v cap (to replace the 4 uf cap if you have it) and one 10 uf 450v cap (to replace the 8 uf or 10 uf cap if you have that one). I will include surprisingly well-written instructions, but rebuilding tube gear is somewhat complicated, and you should know what you're doing and have a decent soldering iron. This kit will not fix everything that could be wrong with your equipment, but it will certainly help. The Eico 221 and 214 use a 1.5v battery, which generally needs replacing. It is possible to replace this with a small "battery eliminator" circuit that works off the AC voltage. This is not part of the kit, and I don't have these available, but if you search eBay for VTVM battery eliminator you can buy one from another seller.
