Description: Raw volcanic glass from Gov. Mountain, Arizona. The stones in the picture are for example of the size range. You get 1 stone of the size that you order. It may or may not be the ones from the picture, but they are all very similar. Multiple sizes. The bigger the size, the more shiny crystals it can be broken into(see warning at bottom). These are unpolished, black chunks of raw obsidian. Some may contain shiny parts, but they are all beautiful on the inside when fractured. Check out my other listings for more sizes! HISTORY Apart of what used to be the Tucson Basin. The basin was created during the late Cenozoic Era, and formed part of the Catalina detachment fault found in south-east Arizona. Obsidian is formed from lava that has cooled quickly into glass. USES Obsidian has been used for thousands of years as a medium for creating sharp tools such as arrowheads, spearheads, and knives. Great for knapping(breaking off pieces to make a desired shape to be used as a tool) Also great for lapidary work or tumbling, as these beautiful rocks are as black as night and shine like a mirror. In the healing crystal community, Obsidian is known for its protective and grounding properties. ***CAUTION*** Obsidian can be EXTREAMLY SHARP, and has a tendency to shoot razor sharp shards when struck with a hard object like a hammer. If you are purchasing this to make small, beautiful crystals, please be careful and wear eye protection and gloves at minimum!
