Description: This is an exceedingly rare letter written by Wyatt Earp toward the end of his life (1927). He died on January 13, 1929 in his home located at 4004 West 17th Street in Los Angeles, which is the same home he wrote this letter from. This a letter written to Sara Bass in response to an inquiry she made to him regarding markings on a gun and the serial number on a Colt pistol she has. Wyatt mentions Tombstone multiple times - very cool and rare content in this letter! I found "Sara Bass" in a 1940 Indiana census consisting of 1935 data (see last picture). I have no way of verifying for certain this is her in the census since no specific address for Sara is notated in the letter, but the census puts her in the correct area at the correct time. The condition is moderate given the leakage of ink from the letter being folded for nearly a century. You can see a mirror image of his signature from the letter being folded and the fountain pen ink (correct for the time) bleeding from the letter being folded and the presumed humidity over time. There are a few pieces of old tape on the back to patch a couple tears, but the letter is fully intact. The letter is in overall good condition given its age. I acquired this letter from a very reputable auction house in Illinois. The letter does not come with a letter of authenticity but I stand behind it 100%. The autograph matches all exemplars from the period, the paper and ink (fountain pen) is true to the period, style of writing matches those of Wyatt Earp, and the address of the letter is where he lived at the time and also where he passed away. Signed letter from the most infamous lawman of all time are exceedingly rare and almost impossible to find.
