Description: A rare estate find. William F. Kellett patented plane iron system without the cap iron. Stamped on the normal iron and thin steel piece are the patent dates Sept 16,1884 & Apr 29, 1890. These dates refer to patent numbers 305,393 & 426,636. The first patent was assigned to William F. Kellett for his system of plane iron that introduced a thin piece between the normal iron and cap iron. The second patent was assigned to a Henry Condron for a patent that looks very similar to Kellett's patent. Also, on Sept 18,1894, patent number 526,154 was assigned to W.F. Kellett for a newly designed two-piece cap iron that goes with the iron setup from his previous patent. This item is for the iron and thin steel piece only, it does not have the cap iron piece. A long winded explanation of the unusual plane iron set I have listed. minus the cap iron. As I stated, the iron and thin piece are both stamped with the two early patent dates. The iron set is 2 1/2" wide and 7 1/4 " long. The thin steel piece is 6 13/16" long. The iron is not a tapered iron, same thickness top to bottom. Please look at all the photos and please, ask any questions before purchase. I have other W.F. Kellett items listed and can combine shipping. Thanks for looking.
