Description: The 18th Airborne Infantry existed only on paper and created as a part of Operation Fortitude which was a military deception operation by the Allied Nations during the buildup to the Normandy landings. Designed to mislead the German High Command as to the location of the invasion and the size and nature of the invading force. This patch was a part of that deception and for a “ghost” or “phantom” division that did not exist. The deception went to the extent of designing insignia and even contracts for production.
