Description: Welcome To The Antique Cabinet For your consideration is a beautiful & very rare French ETLING “Venus” Opalescent Art Glass Nude Statue by designer Lucille Sevin, catalogue #109, circa 1932. Much of our research & info is obtained from the online “Etling Project” site which is a wonderful and highly recommended site to visit! Edmond Laurent Etling founded his business around 1909, his shop was located at 29 Rue de Paradis in Paris France. With obvious great vision and instinct for desired style, his retail business became very admired and respected for its innovated and high-quality designs which were produced in an array of mediums. Along with having his own team of glass-workers which were based at the Cristalleries et Verreries de Choisy-le-Roi Réunies (in the outskirts of Paris), he also commissioned designs from some of the top freelance designers & artist of the period. Edmond Etling was without doubt one of the key players in the Art Deco movement. On an interesting yet very sad note, being Jewish resulted with Etling, his entire family and his glass workers all being rounded-up and sent to Nazi concentration camps where they met their deaths during WWII. Well documented, it is described as a statuette of the goddess Venus, seated on sea foam from whence she was born. She has wonderful detailing and glow and is even more alluring when displayed in front of or on top of a light source. We did not detect any maker marks- although not all Etling was marked with some having paper labels which are rare as most did not stand the test of time. Measures approx. 9½” long by 6¾” tall. It is in excellent condition, free of any chips, cracks or repairs and very lite shelf wear. A very unique example of ETLING Glass!- - - - - - - - -We at the Antique Cabinet strive for 5 stars and want you to be delighted with your purchase.
