Description: RARE collectible souvenir T-shirt commemorating the awarding of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games to the City of Atlanta. LARGE, NEVER WORN. Reproduction of The Atlanta Journal, Tuesday evening Sept. 18, 1990 front page marking the very historic occasion. The Journal ("Covers Dixie Like the Dew") was an afternoon newspaper and printed this extra Olympics evening edition the same day, and only anyone of a certain age will recall evening newspapers! I was in Atlanta on business that day and happened to be passing the Journal's office which was swarming with people. Downtown was crazy with excitement. The Olympics shirts had just gone on sale and I got in line and bought two. I flipped one for double what I paid before I got out of the lobby! (The Journal merged with The Constitution in 2001.) The Page 1 graphic shows the huge crows assembled at Underground Atlanta to watch the awarding of the Olympic Games via TV from Athens (Greece, not Georgia)! There are four Page 1 stories about the event, including a column by legendary sportswriter Furman Bisher. It took five votes for the International Olympic Committee to decide to award the Game to Atlanta and not Athens (which got the 2004 Olympics). Atlanta was also the last Summer Olympic Games held in the U.S. until Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Olympic Games. This is a high quality 100% cotton heavyweight size L T-shirt manufactured in the U.S.A. by Platinum T's. Like new, never worn, carefully stored since its purchase in a non-smoking house, no tears, holes or yellowing. Some minor discoloration on the back, please inspect the photos carefully. Please ask questions! This special Olympic souvenir collectible will be carefully packed for shipping. Payment by PayPal only, buyer pays actual shipping. Sorry, no international orders. Thanks for looking!
