(10 x 19 x 9 cm) and weighing 2.2 lbs (1 kgs) and with the sculptures name on the base: GILLIE AND MARC" in fine collectible condition - fresh from a fine estate collection For full background information on this Bronze Elephant please click on the following link: Click here for MBEGU Bronze background As you will discover in the link - this Bronze, made in only a very small edition of 25 copies (this being #15) was based on the actual event of the survival of a small few months old baby Elephant in Central Africa whose Mother was killed by Kenya Wildlife Service after killing a village woman. The area tribal people attempted to kill the small elephant that was now an orphan in retribution. The calf was severely wounded by spears and rocks. Fortunately the local game warden came to the baby elephant's rescue and through the Naibunga Conservancy the calf was rescued and taken to a refuge where it lives to this day and was named MBEGU which is Swahili for seed. Keeper Mishak who was in the stable with another elephant looked at the tiny calf and said she must have come from a tiny seed as despite having all her teeth already she was by far the smallest of them all. Seed in Swahili is Mbegu. It seemed like an enchanting name for a very sweet and beautiful baby, a baby who escaped death by some miracle. Her wounds were cleaned and treated while many of the Nursery elephants sensed her arrival and began bellowing and this comforted her enormously hearing the familiar elephant sounds". The calf made a rapid recovery and is doing well in a game preserve in Kenya where she will live her days out in safety and comfort. A marvelous sculpture "Mgebu" readily sold out when it was released some years back and the present #15 of that original and only edition of 25 comes from the estate of a great Elephant lover - who travelled to Kenya to see for themselves Mbegu who is no longer small.
