Description: Offering a vintage 1930's Reisz-Marconi Style Carbon Microphone, this one under the brand name SPEED, model SM5. This is likely a Japanese make as they were becoming quite masterful producing these mics which were so popular in that era. This mic casing is carved out of a solid octagonal marble block, and filled with carbon granules under pressure behind a mica diaphragm. (NOTE: A proper DC power supply is included in this sale. The mic plugs into the power supply input, and the power supply output plugs into your amplifier. An inline preamp is also recommended.) As you can hear from the attached video, these have a low-fi audio profile, but this is one of the better carbons I have come across. (We added an inline 28db gain preamp to make the sample recording.) The element is suspended within a vintage aluminum 1930's Western Electric support ring measuring 17" tall, 8" wide at the base by 6" deep, with reproduction Western Electric badge, and is padded to keep from scratching your desktop surface. The mic head connects via 2 terminal contacts and wired to a 4 foot cable terminating with a standard male 1/4" male phono plug. **Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping. ** ** WE BUY OLD MICROPHONES...INVENTORY REGULARLY UPDATED **** Click on my eBay username for details.
