Description: For sale is this wonderful RARE pochoir print from the French fashion magazine "Tres Parisien" under the artistic direction of G.P. Joumard, published between 1920 and 1936. This is one of a limited number of hand colored prints found in each issue of this magazine. Pochoir means to "stencil" in French, and is a highly refined technique of making fine limited edition prints. It is often called hand colouring, or hand illustration. The pochoir, characterized by its crisp lines and brilliant colors, produces images that have a freshly printed or wet appearance using multiple stencils that are based on the original drawing. These are then passed along to coloristes who applied the pigments using a variety of different brushes and methods of paint application to create the finished pochoir print. Pochoir is both labor and time intensive, making it an expensive and slow process of printmaking, and these hand painted prints were primarily produced in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s to illustrate fashion for expensive publications. This pochoir is from the 1930s and illustrates Paris clothing by Prement . The poichoir is colored on a thin piece of tissue paper which is pasted at the top edge to a piece of cardstock. It is in in very good condition with some damage to the corners of the cardstock. The print measures 6 x 9", and the cardstock measures 8" x 10.5".
