Description: Gorgeous 1880s Victorian Era CATHOLIC RELIQUARY FRAME I am no expert in reliquaries, despite being in Antiques business since 1999, please just read description and look at my pictures before bidding. This one was found in an old nun convent just across Quebec City, on the south shore of St-Lawrence river. it is a 100% original "attic find", untouched, stored for decades. The frame is assembled with square nails, so I date it around 1880s. Frame itself is not gold leaf, but painted. It measures 11½" wide x 13½" tall x 3" deep. The visible part (glass) is 7½" x 9½". The "deep" back section jointed to the frame is a bit loose/wobbly, it does not seem to be fixed with nails. I beleive some "ribbons" were holding it together, it may have been opened in the pasot to change the glass or for other reason. On the back there are a total of six (6) "wax seals". Everything seems hand made, you have a cross having six (6) various Saints reliquaries and their names in Latin, surrounded by Victorian decorations: - S. Diodetti, M. - S. Feliciani, M. - S. Lucretiae, M. - S. Claudiae, M. - S. Zenontis et Sociorum. - S. Zephyrinae, M. Condition of the outer box as shown. Some loose canvas on the back & corners. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FRAGILE ITEM! I have no way to secure the stuff inside. Despite a super-packaging in blubble wrap & double-boxed, some little pieces might move or detach during shipping! SOLD AS IS - AS FOUND, NO RETURNS!
