Description: Rare 1870s Warnick & Brown Smoking Tobacco Tin Lunch Box Style ~ Utica, NY Click images to enlarge Description This is an empty early example of a lunch pail style tobacco tin with super graphics dated to the 1870s. Graphics are the same on the front and back. It shows 2 men, one with a flint lock rifle and the other with a chicken. A large barrel at the center reads: Warnick & Brown Superior Spanish Mixed Smoking Tobacco Manufactured at No. 84 Genesee St. Utica, N.Y. On the top of the barrel it shows various types of containers of tobacco: Havanna, Cuban, Cavendish, Principees, and a jar of Snuff. It appears that they are trying to show that their blend contains those products. There is no other text anywhere showing the actual contents which would have been normal for the times. The lid is hinged. The condition is used as shown in the photos and the carrying handles are missing. There is some surface rust but no rust through. Size is about 7-3/4" x 5" x 4". Fun way to display this rustic tin is to use it to hold a small planter, candles, collections, papers, etc. Shipping Items paid for late in the day, may not be packed for shipping until the next business day/evening, and leave the following day.
