You come across those items every once in a while where you say 'wow, why didn't I get this before?'.... well for me, this was one of those items and along with my Hoofjack (we sell Hoofjacks separately) this is one of the best tools I have come across for doing trimming, removing flares, making that mustang roll, and just keeping the hoofs in better condition. According to the manufacturer, this is the first tool line designed and created especially for natural hoof care. I can personally attest that it is easy to use and worth owning. Here's a little about the radius rasp. First you need to know that there are two models, a white one and a black one (we sell both, but this listing is for the black one). Both are great tools and while they can be used alone, they work best if used together. In simplest form, the black one (this item) is used first; its a stainless curved rasp that is courser and removes more hoof material faster. And then there is the white one (sole separately) which shaves the hoof similar to a cheese grater and is used to remove smaller amounts leaving a much smoother finished look. I find the black one works best to establish the shape and remove large flares and the white one works best to finish up or between trims where I want to maintain the hoof or for those times I want better control of how much is removed. So now, more about the item I have for sale in this listing: The Radius Rasp-2 'PRO'-- Has a Replaceable Solid Stainless Steel Standard Rasp Blade which can be purchased separately when needed. The Black Radius Rasp-2 PRO (RR-2) is a more aggressive wall rounding tool that rapidly creates the arc of of the Mustang Roll during normal trimming. Its curve allows you to rasp well above the outer bearing surface of the hoof wall to extend the arc of the 'roll' upward. It leaves a rougher finish than the white RR-1 (sold separately) but cuts faster through the hardened outer layers of the hoof wall. It rapidly smooths the edges left by a 'beveling' nipper cut around the outer edge of the wall. In many cases it can create the basic contour of the Mustand Roll without first making a 'bevel' cut with your nippers. If you are doing a lot of trimming or dealing with hard hooves, the Black Radius Rasp is an essential tool. Like the White one, it is 4 1/2" long and 2" wide, but weighs 13 oz. The manufacturer makes each rasp by hand and as a result machine marks may be visable and don’t affect performance. All products are new and unused.
