Press Photo Historic homes on tour in Charleston, Virginia and Maryland This is an original press photo. Successive dates between March 20 and May 9 make possible a "progressive" tour from Charleston, South Carolina, through Virginia and Maryland during special periods when many privately owned homes and gardens are open to visitors. The Charleston scene (above) shows a row of the city's famous "single houses." At top right is Number 94 Church Street, which was built in 1760. In the oval, attractive hostesses in Colonial costume await visitors at one of the two hundred historic doorways which will open, each for one day only, during Maryland's annual Pilgrimage. At the bottom is Gunston Hall, near Alexandria, Virginia, with its boxwood gardens. The estate was the home of George Mason, author of the Bill of Rights and the first Virginia Constitution. Charleston tour dates are March 20 to April 16. Historic Garden Week in Virginia is from April 22 through the 29th, and the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage is from April 28 through May 9.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated --NONE.
