Description: For sale is a Pre-WW2 U.S. Army 45th Infantry Division Wool Patch. The division's original shoulder sleeve insignia, approved in August 1924, featured a swastika, a common Native American symbol, as a tribute to the Southwestern United States region which had a large population of Native Americans. However, with the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany, with its infamous swastika symbol, the 45th Division stopped using the insignia, switched to the Native American Thunderbird, and ordered the swastika patches destroyed. Only a handful survived, making the original 45th Infantry Division patch a rare and sought-after item for collectors. This particular patch comes from a small group of production error patches in which the swastika is reversed (see the images labeled "corrected direction"). This patch was part of my late grandfather's patch collection. While there is no official certification, he brought it to several patch dealers that he did business with, and they confirmed it's authenticity. I originally intended to keep this one but have recently decided to sell it and put the money towards something I am passionate about. Also included is an original 92ND Infantry Division Patch, the U.S. Army's first African-American Infantry Division, and the only African-American combat unit to participate in combat in Europe in WW2 as part of the Italian Campaign. U.S. shipping only. Both patches will be shipped in plastic top loaders in a padded envelope. Tracking will be provided. Message for additional pictures or if you have any questions.
