She worked in New York and Los Angeles and is best known for her genre paintings which were developed around children, the circus, kittens, dolls, puppets, and flower gardens. Phyllis exhibited her work in many venues and won awards including the Lillian Prest Ferguson Award for Outstanding Woman Artist in 1989.
