Born Clara Ann Fowler, into a family of eleven off-springs, her father was a railroad foreman, her mother was a cotton picker, she began singing while a teen for a Tulsa radio station, in order to provide income for her family. She changed her last name to Page after one of the radio sponsors and first garnered national attention with the hit "Confess" (1948). The song was of historic note for the fact that she overdubbed the backing vocals with her own voice which became a first in studio technology. She secured a record contract with the Mercury label for which she scored two additional Top-Ten hits "Left Right Out Of Your Heart (Hi Lee Hi Lo Hi Lup Up Up)" (1958) and "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" (1962). Additionally, she hosted her own series "The Patti Page Show" (1955 to 1958) and "The Big Record" (1957 to 1958). She would go onto have roles in the pictures "Elmer Gantry" (1960), "Dondi" (1961) and "Boys' Night Out" (1961). She was the recipient of two Grammy awards, one for "Patti Page Live at Carnegie Hall" (1999), and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy.
