Description: Past Patterns PP#6109Late 1920s Pajama Ensemble Sewing Pattern This Late 1920s Pajama Ensemble Sewing Pattern was originally released by The Ladies’ Home Journal ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the original packaging, this garment was described as a "Ladies' and Misses' pajama ensemble, consisting of a sleeveless, tuck-in blouse. Four-piece wide trousers with legbands, plaited at each upper side and joined to three-piece yoke that closes at back. Separate coat with shoulder edges extending high up on the neck, giving effect of collar. Patch pockets with bands at top. With or without long loose sleeves with sleevebands." In History of 20th Century Fashion, by Elizabeth Ewing she states, "Beach pyjamas, with flaring legs, had been anticipated by slim lounging pyjamas, which Chanel was making in the early 'twenties and which were soon being worn by the fashionable. The beach ones, however, had a life all their own and were worn exclusively on beaches everywhere, usually with backless sun-tops or sleeveless blouses....It was the beginning of a new category of clothes, the start of the 'casuals' which were to have a great vogue in future years." ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This pattern set was designed to fit the size and shape of a 1920s woman with 38” bust and 42” hips. This is the only size offered for this package. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 6109 Thanks for looking!
