Description: Parsons, Elsie Clews. The Social Organization of the Tewa of New Mexico. Memoirs of the American Anthropological Association 36, 1929. 8vo, 309 pp., numerous maps, plates, and figures (some color), plus six genealogical charts inserted loose in rear pocket (though presently laid in at rear). This is a beautiful, immaculate copy of the first edition of this major monograph, in its original printed wrappers, and with uncut and unopened pages. There are no spine cracks, and the book resists as if it has never been opened. The excess overhanging edges of the wrapper (about 1/4 inch; in binding parlance "Yapp edges") are folded around the text block. There is a faint bump to the upper outside corner of the last few pages, and a 1-inch tear in page 309. There are some short tears in the overhanging edge of the wrapper, as shown in the photos, to be expected after nearly 100 years. The closeups show the top and bottom of the spine, and the upper right corner of the front cover. It is hard to imagine a finer copy. This is a perfect candidate for a custom fine binding or case. I do not accept returns. I provide thorough descriptions and good photos. Please refer to my feedback for evidence of the accuracy of my eBay listings for 25 years.
